Vice President and General Manager
As Vice President and General Manager of the National Defense strategic business unit, Dave Kaufman is responsible for the acquisition and execution of defense and intelligence-related programs.
Dave has more than 20 years of design, test, project and systems engineering, and program management experience supporting the aerospace industry and government customers.
Dave most recently served as director of the National Security Space mission area within National Defense, where he oversaw a portfolio of
critical programs and capture and business development opportunities with the National customer community.
Since joining Ball Aerospace in 2000, Dave has served in leadership positions for Orbital Express, the Space Test Program Standard Interface Vehicle, and the Orbital Express NextSat programs. He was the senior program manager and capture manager for the SkyFox program, Ball’s first fixed-price prime mission program in a business area with long-term strategic importance.
Dave started his aerospace career as a thermal engineer at Hughes Space and Communications Co. in El Segundo, Calif. He was awarded two patents for his research and development work and was the Thermal Engineering Lead for multiple communications satellite programs. He led technical teams for several geosynchronous spacecraft programs as Bus System Engineering Lead and System Lead.
Dave earned his Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology and bachelor’s degrees from Stanford and Willamette Universities.
