MEDIA ADVISORY - Ball Aerospace & DigitalGlobe to Host WorldView-3 Media Day
May 9, 2014
Nation’s Next Commercial Remote Sensing Satellite Headed to VAFB for Planned August Launch
Ball Aerospace & DigitalGlobe on May 13 will host an opportunity to see WorldView-3, the next generation commercial high-resolution imaging satellite. This is the only opportunity to see the satellite before it launches.
Since 2001, Ball and DigitalGlobe have successfully teamed on four commercial remote sensing satellites that are among the most advanced in the world. These include QuickBird, WorldView-1, and WorldView-2, which are currently in service, and WorldView-3, which is expected to enter service later this year.
The satellite will be shipped to the Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif., in June, for a planned launch aboard a United Launch Alliance Atlas 5 rocket in mid-August.
WorldView-3 is the first multi-payload, super-spectral, high-resolution commercial satellite for earth observation and advanced geospatial solutions. Ball Aerospace has built and integrated the satellite with a telescope provided by Exelis, Inc., that will allow for a breadth of new applications for government and commercial customers.
PROGRAM: Speakers include: President of Ball Aerospace, Rob Strain; President & CEO of DigitalGlobe, Jeffrey Tarr; and Ball Aerospace WorldView-3 Program Manager, Jeff Dierks.
The program includes an opportunity for the media to see and videotape/photograph the WorldView-3 satellite.
